It saddens us to announce that Thomas Gonzalez, husband of Kathy Basile and former President of the Foster A Dream Foundation passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. He is survived by his five children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gonzalez was born on Dec. 22, 1940 and was raised in Cuba. He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, NJ in 1957 and from Santa Maria College, Santa Maria, CA in 1963.

Tom served in the United States Air Force for nine years and was honorably discharged as a Ground Control Approach Radar Technician. He also served in the Florida National Guard for 12 years, and was discharged as a Chief Warrant Off Committee for a Sustainable Treasure Coast, and participated in the “Children’s Movement of Florida”, an organization designed to improve children’s futures state wide by improving early education, health and welfare.

Tom was married to Kathy Basile for 35 years.  His genuine love for Kathy and the Foundation was obvious to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is remembered by family and friends as a loving father, businessman and military veteran. He and Kathy built Sunflower Educare Nursery School together over 30 years ago and it still remains today as one of the highest ranked nursery schools in the State of Florida.

“As owner of Sunflower Educare, my concern for children runs deep.”

The Foster A Dream Foundation will miss Thomas and his passion for the Foundation.

If you’d like to contribute to the Foundation in Tom’s honor you can do so right here on the website.
